Make IT Fair

laptop1

The Make IT Fair campaign, together with GoodElectronics, is putting the pressure on big IT companies like Apple and Samsung to give a fair deal to the people that make their products.

Apple is now the world’s largest corporation, valued at more than half a trillion US dollars. Workers in factories that manufacture Apple products, however, are denied basic rights like overtime pay and the right to a safe workplace.

The International Labour Rights Forum (ILRF) has reported that at one Apple supplier workers were forced to work more than 30 hours straight without notice and threatened with dismissal when they raised health and safety complaints.

Make IT Fair – a coalition of European NGOs – is pushing the big players in the IT industry to make sure the basic rights of workers are upheld throughout their supply chains. The group has called on these companies to change their purchasing practices and make safe working conditions, normal working hours and paying workers a living wage their priorities.

The group has called on supporters of fairness in the IT industry to add their voices to the campaign by joining their Facebook page and getting informed about how their own IT choices can make a real difference for those working in the IT industry.
