In Mosul, Iraq, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people reamin at risk.
In November 2016, a military operation to retake the city of Mosul from ISIS began. As the conflict continues into 2017, hundreds of thousands of civilians risk being caught in crossfire.
Humanitarian conditions in the west of the city are deteriorating. Supply routes were cut off in November when the east of the city was being recaptured. A new offensive in the west of the city, which could start any day, could threaten the safety of 750,000 people trapped without any safe way to escape.
More than 10 million people — half of them children — are in need of humanitarian aid in Iraq. Across the country, ongoing conflict has displaced 3.4 million people.
Oxfam is scaling up its existing operation to help respond to a new wave of families escaping. We have provided clean drinking water, hygiene kits, blankets and other vital aid to villages south of Mosul, where more people are likely to flee.
