Tell the Australian Human Rights Commission a story

Are you passionate about human rights?

Can you tell a good story?

Do you have an iPhone?

The Australian Human Rights Commission is recruiting up to 10 people for the Tell Me A Story program.

Participants will work with the Commission to produce short videos about ordinary people taking extraordinary human rights actions.

You don’t have to be Stephen Spielberg—you can film using just your iPhone—but the AHRC is looking for authentic stories from your community; stories that might inspire others to take human rights action. It could be as simple as someone telling their personal story to the camera.

It’s easy to enter:

Step 1. Create a video of 2 mins or less on a human rights story, featuring one of the following themes:

  • Freedom,
  • Respect,
  • Equality, or
  • Belonging

Step 2. Fill out the entry form

Step 3. Upload your video to Something In Common by 5pm Wed, 24 October 2012.

What’s involved?

There will be an all-day training workshop in Sydney with the digital storytelling specialists Curious Works (the Commission will cover travel expenses) for successful participants.

Then, working with the Commission, participants will produce six digital human rights stories. The videos will be uploaded to Something In Common and promoted through the Commission’s networks.

Every month, the most compelling video will win a $300 JB Hifi voucher. And at the end of the program, the best video overall will win an iPad.

Entries close 5pm, Wednesday 24 October 2012. Read the full terms and conditions here.
