Communities in Kampong Speu, Cambodia are living with the aftermath of a notorious sugar plantation that ANZ financed from 2010-2014. The plantation is implicated in land grabs, food shortages and child labour.
Given that the bank profited from these activities, the community is asking ANZ to keep its earlier promise of facilitating an independent third-party human rights assessment and provide some assistance to help them to rebuild their lives.
So far the bank has not responded.
Community members in Kampong Speu are not bank customers or shareholders, and are concerned that the bank won’t heed their voices.
