“...they really need that love...they have not been treated like how I treat them, or how the staff here treat them. So they really need that protection. That love, that care.”
— Grace, Matron, Lifeline Port Moresby

Family violence is a matter of life and death. That’s why we partner with Lifeline Port Moresby to provide emergency support and shelter for survivors.

One in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence, usually at the hands of an intimate partner. That’s one third of all women, worldwide. In PNG, two in three women have been raped or assaulted. These statistics are not just statistics; they are people — like you and me.

Grace is Matron of the refuge home run by Oxfam partner Lifeline Port Moresby. She also works as a Lifeline counsellor. She too is a survivor of family violence. Her ex-husband abused her for three years before she went to the police and pressed charges.

“[I] have love for people, so I help people, I protect, I take care of them. I went through it and experienced it, so I know,” Grace says.

Around the world, oxfam is working with organisations like Lifeline Port Moresby, giving survivors urgent support such as emergency shelter, as well as investing in long-term solutions that address the root causes of violence.
