Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge

Story Bridge turns Oxfam green

If you’ve noticed Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge looking a little green around the gills lately, don’t worry. Brisbane’s Story Bridge is illuminated “Oxfam green” to spotlight the global launch of a new 55km version of Oxfam Trailwalker— our major fundraising event.

Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane Event Coordinator, Simon Barwick, says the new “55km in a day” option could be a stepping stone for the usual 100km event.

“We are looking to make this event stand out among the other Oxfam Trailwalkers nationally and internationally with the addition of a new single day, the 55km option. This is for those who want to get a taste of the event but don’t feel they are ready for the full 100km challenge first up,” said Simon.

“It’s been great that Brisbane City Council could facilitate the Story Bridge turning green to help us highlight the global launch of our 55km event in Brisbane. We want all Queenslanders to get behind this new event and it’s fitting that an iconic landmark can be used in this way.”

In just three short years, Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane participants have raised nearly $3 million for Oxfam’s development work.

Since the first Oxfam Trailwalker event in Australia in 1999, more than 52,000 Australians have walked or run 100km in 48 hours raising more than $55 million to support Oxfam Australia’s work in communities around the world.
