One Just World

On Tuesday night, the Oxfam Summer Team attended the One Just World forum in Federation Square, Melbourne as part of the Sustainable Living Festival. Highlighting the need for a fair and just economic system to address issues of aid, poverty and climate change, Oxfam’s Andrew Hewett was joined by the Hon Emilia Pires – Minister for Finance, Timor-Leste and Mary Ellen Iskenderian – President and CEO Women’s World Banking in talking about solutions to economic justice including the Robin Hood Tax and microfinance.

Making our presence known, we engaged with people attending the forum in discussions around economic justice, asking them to sign petitions and postcards to the Climate Change Minister, Greg Combet demanding the Australian Government tackle climate change by investing in clean energy, supporting poor countries to access low-carbon technologies and paying our fair share in finance to help poor countries adapt to climate change.
