Straight Talk

Supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to make positive changes through political engagement.

Straight Talk connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with Australia’s political system, building their capacity as change makers. With a focus on practical tools, connection and confidence, Straight Talk empowers First Nations women to make positive change through political and public engagement.

The Straight Talk program includes a national summit in Canberra every 18 months. Participants engage with the federal political system while forming powerful networks with each other and the women of parliament. On alternate years, a regional summit brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women together with others from their region. The most recent summit was held in August this year. More than 50 First Nations women made Canberra their home for a week while building on skills and knowledge, connecting to the political system, meeting female federal politicians, and learning tools for change.
